By Credit Valley Golf and Country Club

In Mississauga, Credit Valley Golf and Country Club (CVGCC) has brought out the best in people, including their philanthropy through charity golf tournaments. Credit Valley is more than a golf club, it is a community hub “building relationships that last a lifetime.” From breathtaking scenery and a challenging golf course to weddings and networking, the club offers a rich variety of experiences. It is the right place to expand our social life by helping others.

For 40 years, club members have quietly raised funds for local charities and initiatives. These include the Alzheimer Society, Kidney Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, Food for Life, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peel, CAMPFIRE Circle, Wellspring, Trillium Health Partners, and now, Hospice Mississauga (formerly Heart House Hospice).

Charity Golf Tournaments: Raising Funds for Hospice Mississauga

In 2023, members formed the Credit Valley Cares committee to take their legacy to the next level. Inspired by the momentum of Hospice Mississauga as it builds the region’s first hospice residence. CV Cares champions charitable causes and initiatives within the community. As such, it upholds CVGCC’s values of integrity, compassion, and community engagement. This commitment makes a meaningful difference beyond the fairways and greens. Certainly, Hospice Mississauga is a clear match. Moreover, charity golf tournaments have been vital to their fundraising efforts.

“I don’t think the critical need for compassionate end-of-life support and hospice care in Peel Region can be overemphasized,” says Anita Boyce, a CV Cares volunteer. “For our members, hospice has meant being able to be a spouse again, not just a caregiver. When you have hospice and palliative support, you get to be by your loved one’s side in the ways you both need most.”

In order to achieve their goals, Credit Valley Cares gave themselves three years to reach a $500,000 goal. Currently, they’ve raised just over $400,000 with one more round of tournaments remaining in 2024. These include The Liz Ferrier Memorial Charity Pro Am Tournament for women and the Al Balding Memorial Charity Pro Am Tournament for men.

This generous donation will grant CVGCC naming honors for the beautiful Sunroom in Hospice Mississauga. The latter is a large, peaceful, bright space where families can gather and support each other through end-of-life.

Forty Years of Community Engagement

“We are so grateful for the commitment of our community through CVGCC and CV Cares,” says Kitrina Fex, Executive Director of Hospice Mississauga. “Hospice is here for everyone experiencing terminal illness, grief, or who needs support in caregiving. We are very excited for the day we open our hospice residence doors to people of Mississauga and the surrounding Peel region. We are honoured that families have opened their doors to us for nearly 40 years.”

As the club looks to the future, there’s a shared commitment to amplifying their impact. Credit Valley Cares believes in the power of community. With every donation and heartfelt gesture, members inspire each other to bring compassion and positive change to their community.
